What Amount of Caffeine Is Of Daily Requirement?

What U Ate

Even though you just can’t start the day without some caffeine, you should stop and think about how much is too much. If you are a caffeine fan like us, then you need to know about the maximum daily intake of caffeine. Exceeding this amount can have serious consequences.

According to many sources, up to 400 milligrams (mg) of caffeine a day seems to be okay for  most healthy adults. That's about the amount of caffeine in four cups of coffee, 10 cans of cola or two "energy shot" drinks.

Try as hard as you can not to exceed that number, as you could end up having bad side effects such as insomnia, nervousness, restlessness, irritability, stomach upset, fast heartbeat, and muscle tremors.

However, just to be on the safe side, you need to know if you are particularly caffeine sensitive.  If you're susceptible to the effects of caffeine, just small amounts — even one cup— may result in undesired side effects like restlessness and sleep problems.
In conclusion, we know how hard it is to wake up and keep going without caffeine, yet you still need to make sure not to exceed 400 mg per day to avoid the downsides.

Food Containers and Their Negative Health Effects

What U Ate

Food Containers

Food Containers are very important in holding our everyday foods till the time we want to utilize them.

Take a second, think about the materials the food container is made of. Food containers or carriers or holders are made of various materials which can have negative effect on our foods which therein remains as toxin in our body when consumed.

Some may argue that "it doesn't matter," but I tell you it matters a lot, though among all the materials used in holding foods, the safest is the Paper Bag!

During processing of foods let's never expect our foods to go in and out through the processing line without some defects from the contact the food had with the processing vessel's surface, especially those in the liquid or semi liquid (paste) forms.

Be in the know that anytime, especially your foods in liquid forms comes in contact with the surface of its container a reaction must take place but all this depends on the magnitude (%) at which the reaction takes place against time. That's why whole lot of preference is given to packaging material which stores the foods before their shelf life is met...

We still observe that some foods go bad or off taste before their expiration, why?
1. Either the handler was careless made some errors in the composition of the ingredients.
2. The rate at which the container's surface reacts with the food stored.
3. Exposure to light which might catalyze the enzymes in the foods and change the reaction sequence and one or two stability constituent of the food might get be used up or  be lost during chemical reaction.
4. Heat is also a major factor which must be watched out, since heat can denature proteins and we know that enzymes in themselves are protein make up. Then foods stored must be kept away from certain range of heat especially those beyond the room temperature.
and many more other factors.

The above stated also goes for most drugs.

How To Make Delicious Mouth Watering Dan Wake (Hausa Delicacy)

What U Ate

Dan wake as it widely known in Nigeria and around boarders is a delicious meal that is indigenous to the people of Hausa. It is a short time prepared food, can be made in about 20 minutes or less if you can find the already mixed flour.

First of all, you will need the dan wake flour – which is readily available now.
Either that, or you will be using a combination of ground beans Flour or grounded beans powder (2 cups) bao bao ( kuka) (3 teaspoons) and potash (1 teaspoon).
The rest are ground dry pepper (chili), groundnut oil, tomatoes, egg, cucumber, carrots and cabbages (the vegetables are optional).
Remember not to use the solid potash, mix it in a half cup of water. It is just best if you have the ‘already-made’ dan wake flour instead of having to mix it yourself. Whatever the case, you are good.
That is a delicious plate of dan wake, the exact way most Hausas serve it.
It is usually served with ground cayenne pepper, which is also called (yaji), you can also use Suya Pepper alternatively and choice vegetables.
Stock cubes are not really necessary as the pepper already contains natural sweetener but some people choose to sprinkle a little. As “Sweetness” is defined differently by different people
This is another delicious plate.
Other people serve with sauces of different kinds. The meal on its own is almost tasteless, just like prepared eba (garri). You have to serve with some of the following in other to truly enjoy it.
Ground cayenne pepper (yaji)
Suya (suya pepper or spice)
Sliced Vegetables (onions, cabbage, tomatoes, cucumber)
Vegetable/beef sauce.
Stock Cubes
Hard boiled eggs
Here is the recipe for the “Dan wake”. First of all you get the Dan wake flour which is readily available now. You get the flour and mix it with a little water to make a thick paste. When you are done with making the paste, boil water in a pot and proceed to the next level.
When the water starts to boil, keep forming the paste into small balls and throwing them into the boiling water. Allow them to boil for about 10mins(the balls will raise to the top when they are done).
You then strain all the water and rinse with cold water once. Strain and turn it into a plate. Sprinkle some already fried veg/oil and some yaji(dried pounded chilli pepper mixed with some spices).you can eat your Dan wake with some veg salad, boiled egg or some cucumbers mixed with fresh tomatoes. Bon appetite!

Foods That Causes Heart Burn And Remedies

What U Ate

You wake in the night, your chest burning. Sometimes the pain is so intense you think it's a heart attack.
For the 60 million Americans who get heartburn at least once a month, the pain isn't just a small inconvenience. Heartburn can affect almost everything you do, keeping you from sleeping at night and functioning well during the day.

Heartburn: Why It Happens

A muscular ring between the end of the esophagus and the beginning of the stomach normally keeps stomach acid where it belongs -- in the stomach. But in people with frequent heartburn, this area, the lower esophageal sphincter muscle (LES), may not prevent stomach acid from splashing up into the esophagus.
Does this mean you just have to live with heartburn? No! A recent survey conducted by the National Heartburn Alliance (NHBA) revealed that 92% of frequent heartburn sufferers point to food as the primary cause of their digestive discomfort.
So, if a change in diet can help you avoid heartburn, which foods should you choose to lose to help head off the pain?

Heartburn Relief: Food Facts

Though heartburn triggers can vary from person to person, certain food and drinks are more prone to allowing stomach acid to splash up into your esophagus, including:
  • Meats. Ground beef, marbled sirloin, chicken nugget-style, and chicken/buffalo wings.
  • Fats, Oils & Sweets. Chocolate, regular corn and potato chips, high-fat butter cookies, brownies, doughnuts, creamy and oily salad dressings, fried or fatty food in general.
  • Fruits, Vegetables & Juice. Orange juice, lemon, lemonade, grapefruit juice, cranberry juice, tomato, mashed potatoes, French fries, raw onion, potato salad.
  • Other Beverages. Liquor, wine, coffee, and tea.
  • Grains. Macaroni and cheese, spaghetti with marinara sauce.
  • Dairy. Sour cream, milk shake, ice cream, regular cottage cheese.
Foods and beverages like these contribute to heartburn (and the more serious GERD) by lessening the effectiveness of the LES to keep stomach contents in the stomach. Smoking also plays a large role, and carbonated beverages should be added to the list as they can put pressure on the stomach, forcing stomach acid back up into the esophagus.
Avoid the foods and beverages above -- and eat smaller meals -- and you may decrease the amount of reflux from your stomach into the esophagus.
Yet changing what you eat isn't the only way to avoid the horrors of heartburn, there are simple lifestyle changes you can make as well.

How To Prepare African Salad and its Benefits

What U Ate

African salad is a delicious Nigerian meal that is native to the ndi Igbo (people of Igbo), here is all you need to know about this Nigerian Delicious Dessert and even all the ingredients used in preparing it.

This meal is very popular in the eastern part of Nigeria; it is one of the most Popular Igbo Recipe, I don’t visit this part of the country and come back without having a taste of this Nigerian delicacy.
Abacha – as the Igbos love to call it –  is one of the most popular evening desserts in the eastern villages, it serves best as kola to visitors, as a matter of fact, there are villages in the eastern part of Nigeria that only offer ugba or abacha to visitors and even visitors have come to love and desire the delicious delicacy.
The fresh Abacha (African salad is a by-product of cassava), there are a lot of processes involved with obtaining the fresh abacha that is used in preparing the African salad that we all know .
Most rural dwellers are very familiar with the whole process involved.
The first thing to do (if you live in the village or own a farm) is to obtain cassava tubers, wash thoroughly and boil along with water for twenty to thirty minutes then pill to remove the brown outer layer, and cut to tiny bits.
The sliced cassava is then soaked in water for 18 hours or more. The last thing to do would be to wash thoroughly with clean water then sun-dry and store in an airtight seal. Dried cassava chips can last more than a year if stored in an air tight dry environment.
But if you live in developed cities you probably wouldn’t need to go through this cumbersome and tiresome procedure, just buy every one of the ingredients in the market
Here are all the ingredients that are needed for preparing Abacha (African salad) whether you are within or outside Nigeria. Some of them are extremely required while few of them are optional

Ingredients for African Salads

6 to 8 cups of Abacha (African Salad) {image below}
Ehu 3 seeds (optional)
1 to 2 cups Of Ugba (Ukpaka)
half cup of crayfish
1 to 2 cubes of maggi or knorrAbout 10cl of palm oilEdible powdered potash(1 teaspoon)
salt and pepper to taste.
3 to 5 garden eggs (optional)
Utazi leaves (optional)
Garden egg leaves (optional) (image in the tray below)
Meat/dry fish or stock fish.(optional)
I told you that most Nigerian foods are served with either fish or meat, Even the African Salad (Abacha) is also served with either fish, meat or even stock fish (okporoko), although there is none of that in the image below.

Here is how to prepare African salad.
African Salads in Nigeria
I like using the dried abacha (as you would find in the plate above) instead of the freshly made wet abacha the only reason is because the former give you the advantage of heating at the beginning for few minutes without being overly wet.
You can either heat or soak the dry Abacha in boiled water for about three minutes, then sieve and keep on a separate bowl.
Blend your crayfish and also slice the onions, garden egg leaves. It is advisable to dissolve the powdered potash in about 5 cl of clean water; this is a trick I employ just to easily filter out unwanted solid materials that is often embedded in potash.
Filter the dissolved potash into a mortar or pot leaving out the residue.
Add about 100ml of palm oil and stir to form a yellowish paste (ncha, as addressed by the igbos), This is the first part to making Abacha (African Salad), add the ground crayfish and pepper, stir, then add the ground ehu if you like.
Ugba is an important ingredient in the process of making African salad, it is considered incomplete without the present of this ingredient. Ugba is usually sold in most Nigerian markets or African shops (if you live outside Nigeria).
Abachi making
Ugba
Add the ugba to the mixture and stir, and then add the abacha, salt. It is advisable to heat the abacha (using the method outlined above) just few second before you use so it doesn’t get cold, as most people in Nigeria like their Abacha to be a little bit warm.
Stir the whole combination and you are almost through with the preparation part.
The garden eggs, the leaves and the onions are used mostly to spice up or for decoration purposes and not added during preparation but while dishing out. They are often sliced and kept aside in different plates or bowls, then added while individual plates are dished out; this also goes for the meat or fish used.
Taste the combination in the mortar or pot, if it is as tasty as you desire, you may also want to turn on the cooker and heat for few minutes if it is not as warm as you desire.
Serve with the meat and also add the garden eggs (sliced) and leaves to individual plate, most people in the rural centers like to take African salad with palm wine. May be a keg of palm wine can give a smooth. Culled from allnigerianfoods.com
